Radiata Pine Wood Treated with Copper Nanoparticles: Leaching Analysis and Fungal Degradation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Radiata pine is the main wood species used in Chilean construction industry, but it must be protected due to its low natural durability. Chemical protection of by impregnation allows for a more efficient utilization forest resources extending useful life. The use nanoparticles has garnered great interest during last decade, their unique physicochemical properties, different from those larger sized materials. In this research, radiata with copper (CuNP) was studied terms retention, penetration, leaching, and protective effect against rot fungi growth according EN 113, AWPA A3-91, A9-18, E11-16. Penetration analysis confirmed uniform distribution across wood, total penetration impregnated samples highest concentration solution CuNP. Retention values increased proportionally evaluated EDXRF. Leaching showed removal first hours test, constant leaching rate up 144 h. Impregnated mass loss (ML) exposure Gloeophyllum trabeum Rhodonia placenta were significantly reduced regardless CuNP or tested, an ML smaller than 5% 14% leached samples.

Dimensional Stability of Particle Board and Radiata Pine Wood (Pinus radiata D. Don) Treated with Different Resins
Particleboard and solid wood stakes were treated with either an isocyanate or phenol formaldehyde resin and exposed in soil beds comprising three different soil types and two moisture contents. The treatments resulted in a marked improvement in the dimensional stability of particleboard but had no effect on solid wood. Higher moisture uptakes in stakes exposed in sandy soils indicated that the ...

Copper-based compounds are some of the most important biocides for the protection of wood in heavy duty applications. In the past, copper was combined with chromium compounds to reduce copper leaching, but a recent generation of copper-based preservatives uses ethanolamine as a fixative. To elucidate the leaching of copper biocides from wood, Norway spruce (Picea abies) wood was treated with a ...

Disposal of discarded chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated wood in landfills raises concerns with respect to leaching of preservative compounds. When unweathered CCA-treated wood is leached using the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP), arsenic concentrations exceed the toxicity characteristic (TC) limit of 5mg/L in most cases. The majority of discarded CCA-treated wood, howeve...

Recent studies have generated conflicting data regarding the bioaccumulation and toxicity of leachates from preservative-treated wood. Due to the scale of the wood preserving industry, timber treated with the most common preservative, chromated copper arsenate (CCA), may form a significant source of metals in the aquatic environment. The existing literature on leaching of CCA is reviewed, and t...

Size-reduced samples of southern yellow pine dimensional lumber, each treated with one of five different waterborne chemical preservatives, were leached using 18-h batch leaching tests. The wood preservatives included chromated copper arsenate (CCA), alkaline copper quaternary, copper boron azole, copper citrate, and copper dimethyldithiocarbamate. An unpreserved wood sample was tested as well....
